James Dyson
Founder Of Dyson
Intro
James Dyson is a British Inventor, industrial designer, farmer, and entrepreneur. He is best known for the creation of the bagless vacuum as well as his efforts in reducing climate change and also has a family net worth of £23 billion.

Key Projects
James Dyson's first invention was the Ball-barrow, which was a wheelbarrow with a ball instead of a wheel. this was an invention which has the purpose of making the wheelbarrow more efficient and easier to use.

He then went on to create the first Dyson vacuum to use the root cyclone technology which improved the dual cyclone engine by adding more cyclone chambers increasing the flow of air even more through the vacuum during suction.

Dyson Philosophy
James Dyson was that design should not only be aesthetically pleasing but also functional and practical. Taking Both Form and Function into Account.

Embracing Failure:
He believed like most successful people that failing is a part of growing and learning so he embraced this philosophy into his inventions by testing and improving his products before selling them to the public. He says "Be prepared to fail, be prepared to experiment."

Lean engineering:
Engineers at Dyson want to improve on things all the time to make them more efficient and use fewer resources and Dyson calls this "Lean Engineering." They focus on using science, engineering, and behavior change to help improve performance as well as efficiency by using fewer resources.

Problem Solving:
Dyson engineers invent through the power of frustration, finding ideas, developing them, testing them, failing, and then starting all over again. he is so committed to solving problems he created The James Dyson Award which is given to people who solve real problems in the world that need solving.

Working Together:
Dyson believes that scientists and engineers should not be working separately away from each other but working together next to each other in inspiring places to spark ideas and work together to solve problems as one.

James Dyson's Impact on the Design World
James Dyson had many impacts on the design world including; Industrial Design and Sustainable Design.
He incorporated Industrial design into people's homes which is a place you wouldn't normally expect to see industrial design styles. He also had an impact on the quality of the products he focused on the products' perfection before sending them out to the public, due to this approach Dyson was also known as "The Apple® of home appliances".

He also brought Sustainable design to the design world, Dyson designs its products in a way in which the use of materials is minimized so that the product is sustainable. An example of this is the Dyson Air blade hand dryers which use less energy than paper towels and warm air hand dryers

Thomas Heatherwick
Designer
Intro
Thomas Heatherwick is an English Designer who is the founder of his design practice in London called Heatherwick Studio. He has and works with a team of over 200 architects, designers and entrepreneurs in his studio in Central London.

Key Projects
Thomas' Key projects include:

UK Pavillion, Shanghai:
The UK Pavilion was a sculpture structure built for the 2010 world expo in Shanghai by Thomas heatherwick's Team
it was a behaviour structure that almost doesn't look real as it was a render. it was a very unique design wich stood out from the generic design of buildings and showed a personlity form just the structure itself.

London Bus
The London bus recently had a complete redesign for its new line up of buses, These Bus were Designed by Thomas Heatherwick who is very widely known for this design it is a modern look for the London bus while still keeping some features form it's Older versions dating back to 1800s for example its two door entrance and exit, the exit being situated at the back of the bus like its predecessors.

Rolling Bridge
The rolling bridge was a wonderful bridge that showed and exceptional example of unique design combined with ingenuity, The bridge was initially a Octagon shaped sculpture wich would unfold and roll into the bridge stretching out to the other side of the canal it was placed on, unfortunately the bridge stopped working in 2021 and will most likely not be repaired since it provided no functional use as the bridge would not work anyway, which I think is going against most designers core values of the design being functional as well as looking nice.

Vessel
The Vessel was a structure created in New York City (NYC) it is a collection of interlocking staircases that people visting NYC can climb. Heatherwick was inspired by the Amphitheatres as well as the ancient step wells of India. It consists of 2500 Steps and 154 Flights which the same as 15 storeys. itALOS HAS 80 viewing landings which the public can use to take a look at NYC from the structures point of view. The structure opened to the public in 15 March 2019 but unfortunately shut down due to the dark truth of 4 suicides made on the structure in less than 2 years it was shut down as of 21 July 2021.

Thomas Heatherwick's Impact on the World
His impact on the world is present in architecture and modern day design. He also launched a 10 Year Campaign to adress the public health issues from boring buildings and how they can effect the peoples lifes, after all some people might be spending most of their life in these buildings (8 Hours a day!) for work. His goal is to make people aware of the issues that boring design might make to people and the emotional connections made by people to the buildings around them.

Dieter Rams
Designer
Intro
Dieter Rams is a German Industrial designer who is most closely associated with companies like Braun, Vitsoe, and the Functionalist school of design. He is also Know for his minimalistic way of design, and his belief of "Less, but better."

He also Created the 10 principles of good Design which are:

1. Good design is innovative

2. Good design makes a product useful

3. Good design is aesthetic

4. Good design makes a product understandable

5. Good design is unobtrusive

6. Good design is honest

7. Good design is long-lasting

8. Good design is thorough down to the last detail

9. Good design is environmentally friendly

10. Good design is as little design as possible

These principles are widely used in today's design by most designers big and small these principles work very well in creating good design, there is even a whole book just on these 10 Principles.
Key Projects
A few Key Projects of Rams include:

Braun Dymatic Pocket Lighter (1980)
Rams was a smoker so he often used his expertise in designing to create lighters that he would use in his day-to-day life, this now meant that he would have to make a product that was not only good design for the public but also himself. giving the product more value as it had more thought put into it with personally added features as well as keeping the design simple and minimalistic, following the 10 principles of good design.

Braun LE 1 Electrostatic Speakers (1959)
The speakers created by Rams where extremely modern visually especially for its time as they were designed in 1959 but the speakers if look at today would still fit in modern day design and would not look as old as they are the speakers are very simple and rigid they have straight lines apart from the curved front and the rounded legs, this design is modern but also shows that both sides of design can be used the rough sharp siad and soft round side can in fact work together and make good design as long as it follows the 10 Design Principles.

Dieter Rams Impact on the World
Dieter rams design philosify is a very influencing philosophy makeing it used by many designers and creators around the world. "Good Design is as little design as possible." This philosophy is used very wide across the world in many minimalistic designs and creations.
Rams' design is so effective that even Apple® has cited Rams as a major source of inspiration. The sleek and minimalistic design of Apple® Products highly reflects Rams' Design Philosophy.

His Design is also Timeless making it a great design method for products ensuring they last long in the visual aspects of the product. Making them stay in fashion for years to come in the modern world.

Dieter rams' design is also sustainable design as he is one of the first designers to express concern about enviromantal impact of inefficient design and ;are scale manufacturing, although he has admitted to playing a role in the global problem of overproduction he is commited and dedicated to making his products efficient as well as environmentally healthy.
